‘Is Rs 30,000 enough to survive in Bengaluru?’ Reddit users share how they manage rent, food and everyday expenses

Moving to a new city for work often comes with a lot of anxiety: will the salary be enough to pay the bills? While some recommend cutting costs whenever possible, others talk about living on salaries that are less than Rs 30,000 per month.
Bengaluru Reddit User Seeks Advice on Monthly Budget
The conversation started when a person planning to move to Bengaluru next month asked if his income would be enough to live near Cubbon Park or HSR Layout. The user expects to earn Rs 23,000 per month and get another Rs 10,000 from their father.Discussing their concerns, they wrote, “So I will move to Bangalore next month / My salary will be around 23k in hand. I can get 10k from my father every month. Is 30k enough to live in Bangalore. NEAR CUBBAN PARK OR HSR LAYOUT?”This post resulted in suggestions from people sharing ways to manage living expenses without spending more than they can afford.
Reddit users recommend shared PGs and low food costs
Another analyst advised the person not to compare his salary with the high salaries that are always talked about on social media. They suggested choosing shared accommodation, using public transport and avoiding eating out regularly.A user wrote, “Don’t listen to others and post 50LPA fomo. Live in pg assigned, try to get groceries and cook once, use public transport, don’t eat out. Any money saved spend on AI subscription / upskilling or stop cooking as it will save time and get tiffin service, try to be close to office but in these places you will have to socialize very well in the area! we can survive.”
‘I survived easily with 17k in hand,’ said a Reddit user
Another user suggested staying in a paying guest (PG) accommodation that provides three meals a day. They estimated that the cost could range from R5 000 to Rs 10,000, depending on how many people live in one room.Narrating their experience, the commentator wrote, “I don’t know why there is this fear. Stay in PG which provides 3 meals and plan for your basic needs. It can cost from 5k to 10k based on the share price you choose. I survived easily with 17k in hand, I lived in a 4 share room and paid 5k. I sent 10k home, and out of the remaining 2k I managed to save 1k at the end of the month. It’s a frugal life but it’s impossible.”
