Saba Pataudi opens up about being single at 50 and if she feels lonely amid the high-profile marriages of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and sister Soha Ali Khan: ‘I won’t compromise just for marriage |

Saif Ali Khan, Soha Ali Khan’s sister, Saba Ali Pataudi, has been far from the limelight even though she comes from a film family. While Saif and Soha chose to be actors like their mother Sharmila Tagore, Saba is a jewelery designer and chief trustee of the Auqaf-e-Shahi (Royal Trust) which is a Rs 1000 crore legacy given to her by her father.
Saba is not married and in a recent interview, he opened up about his choice to be single.
He then clarified that it was not his intention to be single, but so far he has not found the right person. She also said that she is still game for marriage if she finds the right man.He explained that growing up with a father who taught him independence and self-reliance from a young age had an impact on what he expected from his partner.
In an interview with She The People she said, “I didn’t choose to stay single, I would have liked to have a friend. But as I quoted Tapsee earlier in the interview saying that you know when she said I need a man not a boy, I think maybe I met a lot of boys and I had a father who taught me to be independent when I was very young.”
So I used to tell Abba, he taught me to be different. I don’t get along with someone who doesn’t know what responsibility is.”Saba also believes that strong women continue to face challenges when it comes to finding partners. However, he does not associate celibacy with loneliness. “Men still don’t fully accept strong women. That’s why it’s lonely but it depends on how you define loneliness. As I’m a person who knows how to be left alone and I’m very happy in my place. I’m lonely and I can be but I’m not alone. I see many of my friends who you know are renewing themselves and have other relationships even at the age of 50.
So there is an opportunity but I will not compromise because of marriage,” he said.He added further, “I don’t have to prove it to anyone. I need to feel like I’m in a relationship because I’m respected and cared for and it’s compatible. But more than chemistry I think there should be a friendship that exists. To have a reliable partner that you can talk to and relate to, so if I find someone like that, I’m game.”Coming from a family where relationships and marriages often attract public attention, Saba was asked if she ever felt singled out while her siblings and other family members found partners, especially when they were together as a family, she said, “No really, we are all very close. I was introduced to people at the age of 18,19 and it was a long time without a partner.
I am proud that they have found their spouses and their relationships. So, everything is very different.”When Saba was asked if friends or family members are trying to find someone for her, Saba revealed that her friends often wonder why they can’t introduce her to a suitable person. He also explained why he believes that his personality cannot match someone like his brother Saif.“Many of my friends said, they know so many people, why didn’t they find anyone.
I’m like, ‘I don’t think I can handle Saif in my life’.When asked what he meant by that, he elaborated by saying, “He is a person who likes to misbehave, he has a lot of energy. I am sober. I am not an outgoing person. I need someone low-key, I only have a few friends at home, which is probably Bhai now. But when I was growing up, he was a very loving person. I am proud of him for that. I would not be able to deal with such a person and I will not be able to handle myself. I don’t think I would have found anyone with them.
“Saba also spoke well about her statistics and the people her siblings chose as their partners, including them Kareena Kapoor Khan, Amrita Singh and Kunal Kemmu. He said his relationship with them is independent of his equation with his siblings and he shares closeness with each of them.“But I support both of them and I have agreed with their choices, be it Kunal or Bebo, even Amrita.
I have had my own one-on-one relationships with each of them. It does not depend on my brother or sister or mother. I have my equation and we are close, I am honest. I will give Bebo a gift on her birthday or call her if I need advice. It’s an amazing family job, we’re all very close.”Saba also explained that he does not believe that being single makes him lose contact with his family. She shares a close bond with her nieces and nephews and enjoys being a part of their lives.“I don’t think being single is a problem and all their children, according to me, are mine. Although his family thought he would remain single, Saba has made it clear that he does not rule out finding a partner in the future. He added that he would be happy to introduce someone special to his family if the right person comes along.“Tomorrow if I have a boyfriend I would like to see how they react but I think they think that when I am 50 years old, I will be single. But for me, don’t think. You don’t know, what, who I might meet. There are secrets we keep until it’s time to reveal. But there is no secret, to be clear.”
