Diane Warren wins a bid to give Wilbur a new home at her Malibu sanctuary
The successful bid was made by Marcia Zwilling, executive director of the Diane Warren Foundation. He performed in the name of Warren, the songwriter behind many of the film’s songs and a 17-time Oscar nominee. According to Zwilling, Warren had seen news footage of Wilbur walking through West Hollywood and immediately wanted to help. He contacted Zwilling with a simple request.“Diane saw the news clips and she saw a little pig running around West Hollywood and she just called me and said, ‘Please take the pig, take the pig!’For Wilbur, that meant moving from an animal shelter to a very different place. He is now headed to Warren’s seven-acre sanctuary in Malibu, where he will live with other rescued animals.
A seven-acre sanctuary in Malibu
The sanctuary is meant to give Wilbur plenty of space and company. Zwilling said he will have other animal companions and they will be fed what he described as delicious salads. There is also a small problem with his name. Warren already has another pig named Wilbur at the sanctuary, which means the new arrival may be given a different one.Warren suggested “Hollywood” as a possible substitute, a fitting reference to the place where the pig first became known.
Warren jokes about his Oscar record
Warren has spent most of his career writing film scores and has received 17 Oscar nominations without winning an Academy Award. His reaction to Wilbur’s arrival was not easy at all. “I lost the Oscars but I won the pig,” said Warren. This is marked as Wilbur’s extraordinary journey reaches its final stage. What started as a pig suddenly appearing on the streets of West Hollywood ended with it being claimed at auction and given a forever home at a secret animal sanctuary.
